Utah Grizzlies Host Charity Hockey Game

The Utah Grizzlies will host their Second Annual Military Charity Hockey Game March 18. For the price of one ticket, spectators can watch a local military game at 2:30 p.m. and then the Utah Grizzlies vs. Colorado Eagles at 7 p.m. For more information about tickets, call 801-988-8031 and mention “Military Game.”

Red Cross volunteer opportunities

The Red Cross Service to Armed Forces line of service is looking for volunteers in a variety of capacities. Volunteers will have opportunities to work with retirees, veterans, military families, active duty, National Guard and reserve members. Volunteers can provide outreach, casework, volunteer at the VA, represent the Red Cross at a large variety of events, community partnership meetings, etc. If interested, please contact Danielle Dao at danielle.dao@redcross.org or 801-694-9156.

Red Cross Month

Did you know that March is “Red Cross Month”? This March, we encourage you to uncover your inner hero by participating in a smoke alarm installation event with the American Red Cross of Northern Utah.  Seven times a day, someone in this country dies in a home fire. The Red Cross has a mission to alleviate human suffering and with your assistance we can help to reduce the risk of home fires. Volunteers will be going door to door in teams of 2-3 installing FREE smoke alarms and educating residents about home fire safety.  All training and supplies will be provided, no experience is necessary!

649th MUNS inventory

The 649th Munitions Squadron will be conducting a 100 percent inventory of the Depot (FV2172) stockpile from April 3-28, 2017.  All Depot customers requiring munitions support during this timeframe must deliver the applicable documentation to the Custody Accounts section no later than March 21, 2017. During the inventory, the only transactions that will be supported are emergency requests approved in writing by the group commander or equivalent. Please direct any questions to Staff Sgt. Hiring Utah’s Heroes job fair March 23

Hiring Utah’s Heroes is a job fair that will be held March 23 at the South Towne Exposition Center located at 9575 South State Street, Sandy. The event is free and open to military members, veterans and their spouses. The fair will feature more than 90 employers. Additionally, several veterans services organizations will be on site to assist and provide information. All employers will have a variety of open positions available the day of the event. Zions Bank Military Internship Program

Zions Bank is accepting applications for their upcoming Military Internship Program. The program is designed to help veterans return to civilian life. This 12-week internship can provide on-the-job training, banking work experience, positive networking opportunities and personal growth. Veterans and active guard/reserve members need to apply at www.zionsbank.com. Select the “Careers” button. Team Hill Ski Day

The Team Hill Ski Day will be held at Powder Mountain, March 31. Free day passes will be available for all active-duty military and veterans. Spouses, immediate family and civilians with a base ID will receive a 50 percent discount on day passes. Ski and snowboard rentals will be available from Outdoor Recreation for $20.

AFMC Family Days observed in 2017

Hill AFB will observe the following AFMC Family Days in 2017: May 26, in conjunction with Memorial Day on May 29; July 3, in conjunction with Independence Day on July 4; Sept. 1, in conjunction with Labor Day on Sept. 4; Nov. 24, in conjunction with Thanksgiving Day on Nov. 23; and Dec. 26, in conjunction with Christmas on Dec. 25. The Hill AFB West Gate will be closed on all holidays including the Nov. 24 AFMC Family Day. Supervisors are encouraged to follow liberal leave procedures for Family Days and may approve annual leave, compensatory time, time-off award, credit hours, or leave without pay for their employees. Base tax center

The base tax center is open until Tuesday, Apr. 18. Hours of operation are Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The new location is 5837 D Avenue, Building 152. Tax return preparation is a free service for active duty, reservists on orders, dependents and retirees. Monday-Thursday will be by appointment 9 a.m.-noon and walk-ins accepted noon-3 p.m. Friday will be walk-ins 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. (non-complicated returns).

‘Plane Talk’ series

The Hill Aerospace Museum hosts a plane talk series featuring speakers related to the heritage of Hill AFB and the U.S. Air Force. Plane Talk is held on Saturdays at 1 p.m. in the museum auditorium. Talks are open to the public. For information, contact 801-777-6818. Admission is free.
