DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. — A ribbon-cutting ceremony unveiling the new 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group maintenance hangar was held Dec. 7.
The $25 million, 76,746-square-foot high-bay hangar is now a high-visibility flagship 309th AMARG facility and features accommodations for VIP visitors in a two-story administration section with an overlooking observation deck.
“This wonderful facility and the marvel of energy efficiency that it is, is really all about strengthening the direct connection that this 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group team of professional Airmen has to supporting the warfighter,” said U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Steven J. Bleymaier, Ogden Air Logistics Complex commander.
The hangar will accommodate a variety of aircraft for maintenance, repair and inspections for future regeneration in support of Department of Defense, government agencies and foreign allies.
The support functions will include fuel cell work, aircraft jacking, landing gear removal and replacement, engines removal and installation, flight control rigging and technical order procedures required to survey and repair air frame distortion and warping.
“This provides a world-class facility for a proud team of professional Airmen so they can continue their mission trajectory of providing high quality aircraft and parts to the war fighter,” Bleymaier said.
Additional support spaces within the hangar include a technical order library, records storage, tool cribs and equipment storage.
The 309th AMARG is a one-of-a-kind specialized facility within the command of 309th Maintenance Wing, Ogden Air Logistics Complex, Hill AFB. Five mission elements make up AMARG’s support for joint and allied/coalition warfighters in support of global operations and agile combat support for a wide range of military operations.
These mission areas include aircraft storage and preservation, aircraft parts reclamation, aircraft regeneration, aircraft disposal and, when necessary, limited depot level overflow maintenance in support of Air Logistics Complexes’ requirements.
