AFAF campaign underway
The Air Force Assistance Fund runs through April 26. The AFAF is affiliated with four charitable organizations: The Air Force Aid Society supports Airmen and families with emergency monetary relief; the Lemay Foundation assists widows of officer and enlisted Air Force retirees; the Air Force Villages Charitable Foundation provides care for retired officers and their spouses; and the Air Force Enlisted Village provides care and living space for surviving spouses of retired enlisted Air Force members. Sound the Alarm event
Red Cross will team up with fire departments, volunteers, and community partners from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 27 at Ben Lomond High School, 1080 9th Street in Ogden, for a home fire safety and smoke alarm installation event. Volunteers plan to install free smoke alarms while also sharing lifesaving fire safety tips and evacuation plans with families. For more information, visit soundthealarm.org/utah.
649th MUNS April inventory
The 649th Munitions Squadron is conducting a 100 percent inventory of the depot (FV2172) stockpile through April 30. During the inventory, the only transactions that will be supported are emergency requests approved in writing by the group commander or equivalent. Holocaust Days of Remembrance
A remembrance event for the 2019 Holocaust Days of Remembrance Month will be held from 2-3 p.m. May 1 at the Hill Aerospace Museum’s Nate Mazer Chapel. ART hiring fair
Air Force Reserve and the 419th Fighter Wing are holding a hiring fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 3 at the Ogden Eccles Conference Center, 2415 Washington Blvd. in Ogden. The wing is looking to fill 117 maintenance positions for the Air Force’s newest fighter aircraft, the F-35 Lightning II. Qualified candidates will serve in Air Reserve Technician (ART) positions, and must be eligible for military service. ARTs work in a civilian capacity during the week and as part-time reservists at least one weekend per month and two weeks per year. The hiring process for these positions will be fast-tracked, so qualified candidates may receive final or tentative job offers the same day.
CAF Museum reopens
The Utah Wing of the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Museum will reopen for the 2019 season May 4. The museum will be open May through October from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, or by appointment. The museum is located at the Heber City, Utah airport. The CAF is a non-profit all volunteer organization dedicated to the restoration, preservation, and demonstration aircraft that dominated the skies during World War II. The Hill AFB Legacy Chapel is hosting a free two-part introductory seminar for military families from 7-8:30 p.m. May 7 and May 14 at the Layton Family Search Center, 915 West Gordon Ave. All computers will be provided, along with expert instruction on how to tap into the world’s largest genealogy data bases to uncover your roots. Police Week Softball Tournament
The 75th Security Forces Defenders Association will host a softball tournament from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. May 11 and continuing from 8 a.m. to noon May 12. Entry fee is $10 per person with a minimum of 10 people per team. Leadership symposium
The Salt Lake Valley Fire Chiefs Alliance is hosting a leadership symposium featuring Andy Stumpf, retired Navy SEAL, May 18 at Union Middle School, 615 East 800 South in Sandy. The main event is from 9 a.m.-noon followed by a workshop from 1-4 p.m. This is a free event for military, police and first responders with valid ID. Memorial Day Run to Remember
A Memorial Day Run to Remember will be held at 9 a.m. May 27 at the Hill Air Force Base Youth Center. The two-mile observance run will loop through Boyer Hill Military Housing and is free to anyone with base access. The event will serve to remember those who have died in military service. Operation Warmheart Golf Tourney
A golf tournament to benefit Operation Warmheart will be held May 31 at Hubbard Memorial Golf Course. Registration will occur at 7 a.m. and a four-person scramble, shotgun start will begin at 8 a.m. Cost is $65 per person or $240 per team. Fees cover lunch, greens fee and cart. Fundraisers on Hill AFB
Any private organization, unofficial activity, or individual wishing to raise funds on Hill AFB is required to coordinate their fundraiser through the 75th Force Support Squadron NAF Accounting Office.
