Cyber security — It’s everyone’s responsibility

DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. — Cyber security focuses on protecting computers, networks, programs and data from unintended or unauthorized access, change or destruction.

Governments, military, corporations, financial institutions, hospitals and other businesses collect, process and store a great deal of confidential information on computers and transmit that data across networks to other computers. With the growing sophistication of cyber attacks, ongoing attention is required to protect sensitive business and personal information, as well as safeguard national security. Cyber attacks and digital spying are the top threat to national security, eclipsing terrorism.

Here are some tips to keep our network secure:

Never share your password or PIN. As a user, you should never share your password with anyone. It is used to track who had access and made changes to specific information. You are responsible for everything done on the network with your login.

Pull your Common Access Card when not in use. Never walk away from your computer while you are logged into the network.

Don’t "click here" on unrecognizable emails. Team Hill members constantly receive phishing emails from outside entities. Phishing is a digital form of social engineering to deceive individuals into providing sensitive information. Fake websites are built asking our users to "click here" to validate our travel cards, procurement cards, government benefits, etc. Many of these are not legitimate requests and are considered "phishing."

Never "click here" unless you know it’s a legitimate request. If not recognizable, delete it.
