Intersection changing to 3-way stop
The intersection of H Avenue and Fifth Street is being changed to a three-way stop with crosswalks and sidewalks.
The crosswalk and sidewalk southwest of Building 843 is being eliminated due to safety concerns.
Motorists should be aware of the traffic change and allow extra time as necessary. Pedestrians should use the new crosswalks and sidewalks for safer travel to and from their vehicles in the lower west parking lot.

Hill ceremony to honor Vietnam vets
A retreat ceremony to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the fall of Saigon and also honor Vietnam veterans will be held April 30 at 5 p.m. at the 75th Air Base Wing flagpole.
The event will be represented by the 75th ABW, 388th Fighter Wing, Ogden Air Logistics Complex and other Team Hill mission partners. The Utah Vietnam Veteran’s Association is scheduled to attend as well.

Equality Color run, walk April 30
The Hill LGBT Pride Committee will sponsor a color run April 30 near the Hill AFB Warrior Fitness Center outdoor track. Jackson Carter, from “The Biggest Loser” Season 14, will be in attendance.
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the run/walk begins at 8 a.m. The event is free; however, the committee is accepting donations.

3rd Annual AFSA golf tournament on May 8
Air Force Sergeants Association Chapter 1163 will host its 3rd Annual Golf Tournament on May 8.
Entry fee is $65 per person. The tournament is a four-person scramble tournament and a shotgun start begins at 8 a.m. Event includes green fees, cart, goodie bag, unlimited range balls prior to tee time, complimentary beverages, lunch and prizes.

Taiko drummers, dancers, at festival
An Asian American/Pacific Islander festival will be held from noon to 6 p.m. May 9 at Hill AFB’s Centennial Park near the South Gate.
Lunch will be served from noon to 2 p.m. Cost is $12 per ticket or $30 for three tickets. Discount tickets are available if purchased before April 24.
Entertainment will include Taiko drummers, Filipino dancers, Polynesian dancers and a martial arts demonstration.

Business advice for military vets
Military veterans are invited to attend the Utah Veteran Business Conference to learn about the keys to a successful veteran-owned business. The conference will be from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. May 7 at the Salt Lake Community College Larry H. Miller Campus Conference Center, located at 9750 S. 300 West in Sandy.
A mentoring and networking session will also be held from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. This event is open to all current (active, guard, reserve) and former members of the military. The cost to attend is $25; space is limited.

Volunteers needed for two May events
The Cultural Resource Management Team is looking for volunteers to assist with Archaeology Day on May 2 at Salt Lake Community College South Campus and Heritage Day on May 9 at Union Station in Ogden.
Volunteers should be ready to get their hands dirty and have fun helping children use clay to make Fremont figurines and paint pictograph stencils on rock tiles.

Cross-country racers sought for contest
Hill AFB is hosting a cross-country race competition now through May 27.
Teams are needed to compete in a total of eight races in either a 5K run or 1-mile walk. Team points are based on overall participation.

South Gate lane closed till mid-June
Construction at South Gate Drive and Balmer Road to add an additional lane of traffic to the outbound side of the South Gate is occurring now through June 15. AF provides free CNA training
The Airman &Family Readiness Center is helping active-duty Air Force spouses complete the Certified Nursing Assistant program for free through the Davis Applied Technology College in Kaysville. That includes tuition, fees, textbooks and nursing curriculum.
If students can dedicate 12 hours a week to the course, they can be completed/certified within two months. They can be certified faster if they choose the base on the various schedules they accept or if they can attend more than 12 hours per week.
The certification is valid anywhere in the United States. The DATC also can assist with local job placement.
The A&FRC has additional information regarding CNA training through the ACE program under the Department of Work Force Services in Clearfield, if needed. The ACE program can offer funding for all military spouses regardless of service branch.
Availability for this grant is limited to the first 10 applicants. Other qualified candidates may be able to utilize the CNA training offered by the ACE program.

AF officials seek award nominees
Air Force officials are accepting nominations for the 2015 Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs Grateful Nation Award. The award is presented annually to six service members who distinguish themselves through superior conduct in the war on terrorism.
Air Force enlisted nominees must be senior master sergeants or below, and officer nominees must be captains or below. Organizations and base-level personnel must contact their major command, field operating agency or direct reporting unit for applicable suspense dates and nomination procedures. Each MAJCOM, COCOM, FOA and DRU may nominate one person.
Nomination packages are due to the Air Force Personnel Center by May 28.
