Q: Sir, a few years ago the base installed a nice new vehicle semi-trailer truck inspection facility at the Roy Gate. When you came in the gate, the lights were on in the facility and it looked nice. Now the structure has been damaged and the cover is being destroyed by the sun and high winds that blow through. Are there any plans to repair or remove this facility? I just wonder what the public must think when this is often one of the first buildings they see when they enter the base from that gate. Thanks.
A: Thank you for your question. I share your concerns. There are no immediate plans to repair or remove the Roy Gate inspection facility due to lack of funding. The semi-permanent structure located at the Roy Gate commercial truck inspection area has proved itself unsustainable for long-term use. Multiple wind storms, several years of snow and harsh weather, and general exposure to the elements have taken a toll on the outer structure. In addition, the recent expansion of the Roy Gate search area has made the old structure mostly obsolete. The 75th Air Base Wing intends to install a more sustainable, professional-looking facility when funding becomes available.
