Q: I am writing this because I have had enough of the near misses that have been occurring at the cross walk in front of Building 503. People are continuing to run the red light while people are trying to cross the street and there have been several near misses. We, as a group, have brought this to the attention of our Voluntary Protection Program reps, Traffic Council and our upper management, and absolutely nothing is getting resolved. If I need to start carrying a rock and throwing it through the window of the cars that nearly hit me, I will. I have the right to defend myself. This issue needs to be given top priority.

A: Thank you for your feedback. The traffic council has made some changes in an effort to improve safety at this particular crosswalk to include relocation of stop bars and increasing the pedestrian time duration to allow ample time to enter and exit the crosswalk. Additionally, I have directed the 75th Security Forces Squadron to increase patrols in the area and step up enforcement of existing traffic laws. I understand it’s not always possible, but if you witness an aggressive driving act, it would be helpful to provide a license plate number to Security Forces so they can follow up with the driver. I understand your frustration, but recommend you do not resort to throwing rocks or taking other aggressive actions as that would only result in a very negative outcome for all involved. The safety of all who live, work, or visit this installation is a top priority, but it is up to each individual to exercise vigilance and good judgment before entering a roadway. No traffic management or enforcement tool can guarantee your safety against an inattentive or reckless driver.
