ACTION LINE: What about civilian ID cards?

ACTION LINE: What about civilian ID cards?

Q: I am a civilian employee. Since November, civilian dependent ID cards have not been issued, with no explanation. When I call the given number (777-6143), the date is updated occasionally, but the message remains the same, “No civilian dependent ID Cards. Please check back.” Is there an expected date for renewal of service or a reason that can be shared for the delay?

A: The Department of Defense Manual (DODM) 1000.13, Volumes 1 & 2, which govern eligibility for DOD Identification (ID) Cards, has changed. Air Force guidance based on this change is not yet final, so we have not launched a publicity campaign until we know the new procedures.

In order to bring us into compliance, we have a recorded phone message and have posted signs to explain the changes to the AFI. These efforts should direct individuals to Security Forces in Building 408 (behind the BX) if they have questions about installation access.  At this time, civilian employees may continue to sponsor individuals with a legitimate need to access the base through the Pass and ID office at Building 408. While this may differ from the old Dependent ID Cards for DOD civilians process to which you’ve become accustomed, the end result will still enable dependents access to Hill AFB, as required and authorized.

I thank you for taking the time to bring your concerns to my attention. Your comments were valuable in helping us see that we could make adjustments to our messaging to help others who need assistance during this time of transition.
