Civilian exercise program Fit 4 Life to be suspended

HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah — The Air Force Sustainment Center Commander has made the decision to temporarily suspend the Fit 4 Life program, effective August 4, with an annual review of the program, in order to better align with the National Defense Strategy and focus available resources on mission readiness.

AFSC leadership was clear that this decision is about mission readiness. Each year Fit 4 Life accounts for more than 500,000 direct labor hours, and a missed opportunity to earn $150 million in revenue. Temporarily suspending Fit 4 Life will also improve our customers’ purchasing power by reducing the maintenance rates we charge to our customers. These additional direct labor hours are needed to repair critical aircraft and parts needed for our nation’s readiness.

“The difficult decision to suspend this benefit across the AFSC is a strategic decision to focus on generating cost effective readiness,” said Lt. Gen. Gene Kirkland, AFSC Commander. “We care about the health and wellness of our employees, and we encourage them to make other arrangements to meet their fitness goals.”

The change affects everyone in the AFSC to include the Ogden, Oklahoma City and Warner Robins Air Logistics Complexes; 72d, 75th and 78th Air Base Wings; 635th Supply Chain Operation Wing and 448th Supply Chain Management Wing; and all AFSC home and staff offices. It does not affect other Centers within Air Force Materiel Command or associate units stationed on AFSC bases.

With a renewed focus on our nation’s readiness, we must make difficult choices to achieve the cost effective readiness in support to warfighters. In today’s global environment, our AFSC mission of sustaining weapon systems and providing supply chain support is critical to our Air Force’s readiness.

Excused absence for the purpose of physical activity will no longer be authorized; however, employees can work with their supervisors to arrange a flexible time schedule, worked in accordance with applicable regulations.

Bases across the AFSC provide multiple fitness facilities. Tinker AFB, Robins AFB, and Scott AFB each have a 24-hour fitness facility accessible to personnel by CAC card (upon registration). Hill AFB officials are currently exploring 24-hour options at their facilities. Employees are able to use the facilities free of charge.

(Additionally, the Civilian Health Promotion Services and the Employee Assistance Program are still available).
