Base employees gather for inaugural car show

HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah — This week, the Foreign Military Sales Division at Hill Air Force Base momentarily turned its attention from peddling aircraft to ogling sports cars and restored classics instead.

As part of a morale building activity, employees and guests gathered together for the organization’s inaugural car show June 27.

The event was the first for the unit, and several program teams and individuals displayed a mix of modern sports cars and restored classics, and enjoyed chatting details with visitors about their personally owned vehicles and restorations.

Dave Stone, Foreign Military Sales F-16 System Program Office, coordinated the event, and would like the make it an annual happening.

“This is our first car show and burger burn, which we are hoping turns out to be an annual event” said Stone. “We are doing a ‘Best in Show’ contest by visitor popular vote, with the winner receiving a trophy and picture, which will be displayed in our main building for a year.

“The focus here is on everyone having a good time at the event, and the participants were good enough to bring their cars voluntarily and open them up for people to take a look.”

This year’s winner was Ron Zipperer, Foreign Military Sales program manager, with his 1939 Ford Tudor 2 door, Standard Sedan. The custom street rod sports a 430 horsepower Corvette LS3 engine, custom chassis, drive train, suspension, brakes and custom interior.
