HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah — More than 90 interns from across the country and participating in the Air Force’s Premier College Intern Program, or PCIP, visited Hill Air Force Base June 4-6.
Danielle Burke, Directorate of Personnel for the Air Force Sustainment Center, said the PCIP is designed to attract high-caliber candidates currently enrolled full time in college or attending vocational or educational institutions who are seeking a career with the Air Force Civilian Service.
While visiting Hill AFB, students were exposed to a number of base’s missions including landing gear repair, aircraft laser depainting, C-130 and F-16 depot maintenance, munitions storage, and explosive ordnance disposal.
According to the PCIP website, 500 paid full-time positions were available in 2019 to college and university sophomores and juniors, and to graduate students enrolled in a full-time graduate program.
The internships last 10-12 weeks during the summer and are offered at more than 45 locations around the country. Throughout the program, students work shoulder to shoulder with current civilian employees.
In addition, the program provides interns opportunities to access special projects using cutting edge technology, while under the mentorship of senior managers.
Internships are available in a number of career fields including science and engineering, civil engineering, contracting, communications and information, financial management, logistics, program management and federal wage system trades and crafts.
When the program is completed, the internships potentially qualify students for a permanent full-time position upon their degree completion.
