Hill Airmen return from Middle East deployment

HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah — The 729th Air Control Squadron welcomed home more than 120 warriors April 29 from a seven-month deployment to the Middle East.

“Our mission is to deploy on short notice to anywhere in the world and provide combatant commanders with persistent 24/7 battle management command and control of joint air operations,” said Lt. Col. Jeffrey Digsby, 729th ACS commander. “We are extremely proud of our men and women who have performed their duties flawlessly, and we are excited to have them back.”

While deployed the 729th ACS members provided aircraft control and an air surveillance picture across 1.1 million square miles of U.S. Air Force Central Command airspace. Surveillance technicians, weapons directors, and data link experts executed 24/7 Battle Management Command and Control, directing the tactical execution of the air component.

At the same time, maintenance personnel from several career specialties (radar, radio, cyber transport, HVAC, power production, and vehicles) worked tirelessly around the clock to keep the squadron’s equipment at several locations across the theater fully mission capable.
