HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah — The Team Hill community will celebrate the grand opening of the Hess Fitness Center functional fitness area at 11 a.m. March 27.
The renovated area will feature 10,400 square feet of fitness space. Some of the equipment available for use includes the Alpha Warrior Battle Rig, TRX suspension training equipment, squat racks, dumbbells, medicine balls, kettle bells, rowing machines and spin bikes.
The entire floor is covered in rubber matting with open space for individual or small group workouts.
Additionally, new equipment is being purchased to make the new facility an even better fitness experience, and on par with some of the best gyms in the community.
The new area will significantly complement the Warrior Fitness Center and will also be the new home for the base’s Fitness Improvement Program classes.
The 75th Force Support Squadron and 75th Civil Engineering Group worked together to transform the indoor pool into the new fitness area.
In conjunction with the grand opening of the new area, the bubble will be removed. Taking down the bubble will notably change the Hill landscape. The bubble has been on Hill since 1988 and outlived its lifespan by decades.
The cost to upkeep it was significant and the cost to repair and maintain the pool could no longer be substantiated for the lack of use, 75th FSS officials.
The tennis court and running track will remain available for outdoor use.
The final phase of the fitness upgrade will include upgrades to the outdoor pool, which includes new tables, chairs, and shade umbrellas.
The outdoor pool will be open in the summer. To provide a swimming option in the winter months, Outdoor Recreation has arranged for swimming passes to be available at the Clearfield Pool and Layton Surf and Swim for active duty military personnel.
The functional fitness area will share the same hours of operation as the Warrior Fitness Center, which is 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
The area is open to authorized users ages 16 and up. Children are not permitted in this area, but the Hess facility does have a parent-children area.
