‘Put Your Best Fork Forward’ campaign through March

HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah — Have you heard? March is National Nutrition Month. The theme for 2017 is ‘Put Your Best Fork Forward.’ So let’s get real for a moment. It can be challenging to change our normal eating habits and switch to making healthier food choices. Sometimes we can fall short of our goals and feel like we have failed, but you know what? That is ok! We are human. Give yourself a little break; it is only when we stop trying that we truly fail. The theme ‘Put Your Best Fork Forward’ is there to remind each of us during the month of March to continue to try and work toward making healthier food choices. Each of us have the power to change and all we have to do is to continue to try to do as well as we can each day. By making small changes during National Nutrition Month and over time, we can improve our overall health now and in the future. Here are a few tips to help you ‘Put Your Best Fork Forward’:

• When you have some spare time, plan ahead and make healthy single-serving, grab-n’-go snacks. That way when you’re rushing out the door or just wanting something to munch on, you don’t have to think twice because the healthier option is now available. Need Ideas? Cnsider fruit and a hardboiled egg, string cheese and veggies or a packet of tuna with whole grain crackers.

• Make lunch the night before so that you can avoid running to the drive-thru.

• When planning meals, think of the MyPlate and try to include each of the five food groups (fruit, vegetables, protein, grains and dairy) into your meals. For example, when having spaghetti and meatballs for dinner, plan to add a side salad and your favorite fruit.

For more ideas and free taste testing, come to our Pre-Prepping class on March 23 from noon-1 p.m. at the HAWC. Call 801-777-1215 to sign up and remember to ‘Put Your Best Fork Forward!’
