Get in step for fall with martial arts classes in various styles

Mixed martial arts class with Gloria Olson, who holds a 7th degree blackbelt and 23 years of experience in soft and hard style including karate, tae kwon do, kickboxing, kung fu and kenpo. Course will include soft and hard style, self defense, sparring and weapons. Benefits include self esteem, discipline, conditioning and good health. Classes are Mondays and Wednesdays, 4 p.m.-4:45 p.m. for those 4 years to 6 years old; 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. for those 7 years to 18 years old, in the Hess Fitness Center, Building 520 across from the Family Fitness Area. Hill Martial Arts Academy: Taekwondo and Haidong Gumdo, with Troy Yoho who holds a black belt with the World Taekwondo Federation, World Haidong Gumdo Federation and World Hapkido Federation. He has 17 years experience in martial arts and has taught martial arts to youth and adults for six years. Course will focus on self defense, self control and self discipline. Taekwondo is the art of kicking and punching. Haidong Gumdo focuses on the art of the Korean Sword.

Taekwondo courses will be:

Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays

6 p.m.-7 p.m., for those 8 years to 13 years-old, at the Warrior Health and Fitness Center Building 533, second floor

7 p.m. -8 p.m., for those 14 years old to adults, same location

Tuesdays and Thursdays

5 p.m.-6 p.m., for those 5 years to 10 years old, in the Hess Fitness Center Building 520, across from the Family Fitness Area

Haidong Gumdo courses:

Mondays and Wednesdays

8 p.m.-9 p.m., for those 8 years old to adults; in the Warrior Health and Fitness Center, Building 533, second floor

Tuesdays and Thursdays

6 p.m. -7 p.m., for those 8 years old to adults, same location

Fees are $46 a month; only $35 a month for Taekwondo on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Multiple student discounts available.

Hill judo will be taught by Don Chesmer, a member of United States Judo Inc., with a registered rank of Sandan (third degree black belt) and a certified national level coach with USA Judo. Chesmer has more than 30 years national and international judo experience. He has been teaching youth for more than 20 years.

Judo is a year-round Olympic grappling sport involving the use of a variety of techniques such as throwing, pinning, choking (13 years and older), and arm locks (17 years and older) to win. Competition available at all levels. Annual membership to USA Judo and uniform are required. Basic monthly fee: $25.00. Tournaments are optional. Class times and ages:

6 p.m.-7:30 p.m., 14-18 years
