Hill Air Force Base’s Restoration Advisory Board, or RAB, is seeking applicants interested in representing the community of Hill AFB on the board that works with the Air Force on environmental cleanup decisions that affect the base and the surrounding communities.
Residents or those who work on Hill AFB are eligible to submit an application.
“We’re looking for people with an interest in environmental issues and a desire to serve their community,” said Mark Loucks, chief Environmental Restoration for the Air Force Civil Engineer Center-Hill. “We hope that by opening the position up to both residents and workers, we will see a lot of interest in the position.”
Established in 1995, Hill’s RAB was formed to increase public participation throughout the ongoing environmental cleanup process and to allow community members and other stakeholders to have meaningful dialogue with Hill environmental officials. The RAB is a committee comprised of community members from seven cities surrounding the base that are affected by Hill AFB groundwater contamination. In addition, representatives from state, local and federal agencies also participate, as well as other interested stakeholders such as the Sierra Club.
Applications may also be requested by calling the number listed below. Mailing and fax instructions are on the application. Mailed applications must be postmarked on or before Jan. 15, 2016. Emailed and faxed applications must be received by 4 p.m. on Jan. 15, 2016.
The RAB will review the applications and will select a representative at the group’s Jan. 28 meeting. Applicants are encouraged to attend the meeting and, if present, will be allowed two minutes to introduce themselves prior to a secret-ballot vote. RAB meetings are open to the public and are held at the Sunset City Offices, 200 West 1300 North in Sunset, from 6:30 to 9 p.m.
Community RAB members serve without compensation for a two-year term and are expected to attend quarterly RAB meetings or send an alternate in their place. Applicants should be prepared to devote approximately four hours per month to their RAB responsibilities, if selected. RAB members will have the opportunity to review cleanup plans, budgets and program priorities, and comment on technical documents and reports.
Community RAB members act as a liaison between the community and the Air Force, and as such, should be available to Hill AFB residents and employees to exchange information and concerns.
