Air Force reservists from the 419th Fighter Wing volunteered on the USS Missouri at Pearl Harbor today. While doing their two-week annual training at Oahu’s joint base, about 15 Airmen took time on their day off to help clean the historic Navy ship — polishing areas frequented by thousands of visitors each year, and clearing out storage areas not seen by the public.
“I’ve visited here before as a tourist, but I wanted to come back as a volunteer,” said Tech. Sgt. Stacey Macavinta, 419th Force Support Squadron. “This is a historic place, and I just wanted to be part of something bigger than myself.”
In addition to serving one weekend a month, Air Force reservists are required to do two weeks of intensive training each year to ensure they’re ready to deploy when called upon.
