The second annual ‘Strike-Out Domestic Violence’ softball tournament held Oct. 1 at the Warrior Fitness Center softball fields kicked off Domestic Violence Awareness month here.
Col. Jennifer Hammerstedt, 75th Air Base Wing commander, attended and threw out the tournament’s first pitch. She also spoke about stopping domestic violence by speaking up and being part of the solution.
The tournament was supported by volunteers from Green Dot, who advocate for strengthening a violence-free community. Other volunteers and coordinators included the Team Hill Chapel, Integrated Delivery System personnel, the Warrior Fitness Center intramural sports staff, and the Hill AFB Chiefs Group.
The softball tournament was a huge victory with over 350 people in attendance. Twelve teams registered and played throughout the day.
The traveling trophy was awarded to the “Cyclones” of the 309th Aircraft Maintenance Group, who finished undefeated in the double-elimination tournament.
Hill AFB Family Advocacy hosts the annual event the first Saturday of October to raise awareness for the prevention of domestic violence in our culture.
