HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah —
Concrete islands and barriers will be installed at the South and Roy gates.
Lane closure restrictions will be in place Oct. 8 through the end of November, beginning with the South Gate.
“With increased volume of traffic at the gates, the concrete islands and barriers are needed for the safety of motorists, pedestrians and security forces guards at Hill,” said Branko Vitanov, base civil engineer. “There have been several near misses at these gates in the past year.”
During construction of the South Gate, two inbound lanes of traffic will be opened. When construction shifts to the Roy Gate, there will be just one inbound lane of traffic opened at all times. The East Gate will be opened weekdays from 5 to 10 a.m. during the construction period.
Base officials ask for everyone’s patience in advance of these much needed installation safety upgrades.
Motorist, pedestrians and cyclists should be alert and obey all traffic laws during their commute throughout the construction area, which will help these projects be safely completed with minimum delays.
