STEM City planned for Hill air, space show

HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah — On June 23-24, Hill Air Force Base with the tremendous support from the Utah Air Show Foundation, will host the “Warriors Over the Wasatch: The Legacy Continues” Air and Space Show featuring the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds.

In addition to the numerous world-class aerial acts and wide variety of static displays this year’s event will also feature a STEM City.

The area will be an exciting display of hands-on booths to encourage students and educate parents on opportunities in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math, said Allison Sturgeon, Hill AFB STEM coordinator.

Planned for the STEM City is an F-35 simulator presented by Lockheed Martin. In addition, Utah’s own “Diesel Brothers” featured on the Discovery Channel will have trucks on display and the Hill Aerospace Museum education staff will provide an hourly stage show on STEM.

Other exhibits curently scheduled include BAE, Orbital ATK, the Utah STEM Bus, Utah STEM Action Center, Clark Planetarium, Leonardo, Rube Goldberg competition winners, a Mission to Mars exhibit, STARBASE, USTAR, IM Flash, Northrop Grumman, Air Force Association, STEM 101, Centeva, Haight Bey & Associates, Girls Go Digital, Weber State University, Davis Technical College, Ogden-Weber Technical College, Southern Utah University, University of Utah, Utah State University, and Rocky Mountain Power.

The show is estimated to draw 500,000 visitors over the weekend, while generating upwards of $50 million of economic stimulus for the surrounding communities.

Gates open at 8 a.m. and close at 5 p.m. Aerial performances are scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday.
