More than 50 Team Hill Airmen, dependents, and civilians participated in a three-hour introduction to the ‘Krav Maga’ self-defense system at the Warrior Fitness Center Oct. 8.
Krav Maga is a reality based self-defense system aimed at developing self-empowerment and improving potentially lifesaving self-defense skills. It’s comprised of instinctive movements and aggressive defensive and offensive maneuvers that can all be learned in a short amount of time by anyone regardless of size, gender or athletic ability.
Krav Maga instructor Clayton Mortensen showed paired participants a variety of useful and powerful techniques. Participants learned kicks, strikes, and defenses from grabs and attacks.
“With the introduction to these new concepts and self-defense techniques that they can apply to real life, they will feel more confident,” said Mortensen.
The self-defense seminar was just one of several events held during October’s Triple Ribbon month. An addiction recovery luncheon will be held Oct. 19 and a domestic violence shelter donation drive is ongoing through Oct. 24. Donations can be dropped off at the Airmen & Family Readiness Center, Base Exchange, Family Advocacy Clinic, and Warrior Fitness Center.
