Hill’s Capt. Jared Struck and his “crew” receive the coveted Badwater 135 Finisher belt buckle after he completed the ultramarathon. The California race begins at the lowest point in the U.S., 280 feet below sea level, in Death Valley, and ends 135 miles later at 8,300 feet above sea level on the side of Mount Whitney. Struck, an aircraft maintenance officer with the Ogden Air Logistics Complex, heard about the race in 2007 and set a goal to finish the grueling feat in 48 hours.
