HILL AIR FORCE BASE — Utah Transit Authority will use the Southwest Gate to Hill AFB during the South Gate closure.
The detour is needed because March 22-May 15 the base will install speed tables and a new wedge barrier at the South Gate.
Speed tables are similar to speed bumps but with sloping, angular sides instead of a rounded profile. A wedge barrier is a powerful, wedge-shaped hydraulic press that can be deployed to prevent unauthorized vehicle access to the installation.
During this period, Route 665 will enter the installation via the Southwest Gate and service stops beginning at 6th and Community Lane. Additionally, there will be a temporary bus stop at Weiner Road prior to South Gate Avenue. Buses will access South Gate Avenue from Weiner Road. After the last stop on H Avenue, buses will travel west to the Southwest Gate and exit the base.
UTA officials said bus operators will have route information available for passengers and will be posted on the UTA website. The information will also be posted at all Hill AFB Route 665 bus stops.
Once this alternate service begins, officials said, it may become necessary to make adjustments to the bus schedule.
