OGDEN — In a Utah first, three female veterans are now leading an American Legion post.

Baker-Merrill Post 9 of the American Legion recently elected new officers, and all three of those officers are women. The new commander of the post is Jan Miller of Ogden, an Army veteran. First vice-commander is Sara Garcia, and second vice-commander is Barbara Beck. Both Garcia and Beck are Air Force veterans, and live in North Ogden.

“Post 9 is a family oriented veterans organization,” Miller is quoted in a news release, “and we welcome and encourage active-duty members and veterans to join us as we work to serve the needs of veterans and their families in the greater Ogden community.”

The post is located at 845 W. 24th St. With nearly 500 members, Baker-Merrill Post 9 is the largest American Legion post in the state.
