2nd Combat Camera Squadron inactivates

Hill Air Force Base — The 2nd Combat Camera Squadron held its inactivation ceremony here Sept. 24 and took another step in its transition to Operating Location-H, Air Force Public Affairs Agency.

The squadron, which was activated in October 2009, will no longer have the combat camera mission, and will instead focus on producing award winning productions for the Air Force.

“We will still have the same team of producers and directors, the best in the Air Force and the best in the Department of Defense for three years running,” said Larry Clavette, AFPAA director. “We will continue to provide world class videos for the Air Force leaders and other customers.”

The Airmen, all coded as broadcasters, and civilians assigned to OL-H, AFPAA, will operate under a new video production mission. Under the direction of a GS-14, the new OL-H will be the Air Force’s premier video production unit, providing the Air Force and its leaders with top-notch productions.

The squadron has won over 100 video production awards competing at the major command, Air Force, DOD and international levels. Additionally, the squadron has a three year running with the, “Best in the DOD Award,” as well as first place in the International Defense Film Festival.

Dating back to Feb. 4, 1943, the 2nd Army Air Forces Combat Camera Unit was stood up. Two years later, the unit was officially designated as the 2nd Combat Camera Squadron. Since its first activation, the squadron has been activated, re-designated and inactivated 14 times in its 71-year history.

Originally a squadron of 63 personnel, the new OL-H construct holds a 34-person roster. All combat photojournalist Airmen and officer positions have since filled other public affairs billets throughout the Air Force.

The official date of the transition is Oct. 1, 2014.
