STEM City educates, entertains Hill show-goers of all ages

HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah — This year’s Warriors Over the Wasatch Air and Space Show featured for the first time an entire hangar filled with interactive exhibits called STEM City.

“The area was an exciting display of hands-on booths to encourage students and educate parents on the many opportunities available in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math,” said Alison Sturgeon, Hill AFB STEM coordinator. “We were thrilled with the positive response STEM City received.”

The exhibition included giant video games, drones, robots, virtual reality, welding simulators and rocket launching. In addition, the Hill Aerospace Museum education staff provided an hourly stage demonstration on STEM concepts.

“Many people told us that this was their child’s favorite part of the Hill Air Show,” Sturgeon said. “We were also very happy to showcase so many different technologies and grateful to the many organizations who made this first event an overwhelming success.”

Other STEM City participants included BAE, the Utah STEM Bus and Utah STEM Action Center, Clark Planetarium, the Leonardo, Rube Goldberg competition winners, STARBASE, USTAR, UAMMI, Northrop Grumman, the Air Force Association, STEM 101, Haight Bey & Associates, Girls Go Digital, Weber State University, Davis Technical College, Southern Utah University, Dixie State University, University of Utah, Rocky Mountain Power, KSL, and Dell EMC.
