HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah — Two officers in the 419th Fighter Wing are participating on an elite team of reservists chosen to represent the United States in an international military competition.
Capt. Sterling Broadhead and 2nd Lt. Andrea Uchiyama are competing in the 2017 Interallied Confederation of Reserve Officers Military Skills Competition, which takes place this week in Prague, Czech Republic.
Open to all ranks of the Guard and Reserve, the three-day event tests military members in a variety of high-intensity scenarios, including obstacle courses, marksmanship, land navigation, and combat first aid – skills that may be required in deployed environments.
The competition is designed to foster camaraderie between allied nations and encourage participants to take their knowledge back to their home units. Participants are chosen based on physical fitness test scores, marksmanship abilities, and overall fitness standards.
Although Broadhead and Uchiyama trained year-round to qualify, more rigorous training took place in Vermont and Austria in the weeks leading up to the competition.
Broadhead currently serves as executive officer for the 419th FW and Uchiyama is the executive officer for the 419th Mission Support Group.
