HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah — A combating trafficking in persons breakfast to increase employee awareness and emphasize the importance of combating trafficking in persons was held Jan. 16 at the Hill Aerospace Museum.

Human trafficking is a modern-day form of slavery involving the illegal trade of people for exploitation or commercial gain. The three most common forms of trafficking are: labor trafficking, sex trafficking, and child soldiering.

Jerome Elam, president and CEO of Trafficking in America Task Force, and the Honorable Sean Reyes, Utah attorney general, addressed nearly 200 military, civilian employee and family members who attended the event.

Elam shared his personal experiences as a survivor of child sex trafficking, child abuse and child pornography. Now, a fierce advocate on the topic, he dedicates time to educating audiences about human trafficking.

Reyes then discussed his role prosecuting a notorious human and child sex trafficker Victor Rax in Utah in early 2014. He also talked about his part in an undercover sting in Colombia in October 2014 that rescued more than 120 young girls from cartel members.
