HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah — A ceremonial ribbon was cut Oct. 5, opening one of Team Hill’s newest military family housing units to one appreciative family.
The new duplex unit on Charlestown Loop here is one of 10 newly constructed homes for junior noncommissioned officers and their families. Three new duplexes are located on Charleston Loop and two are on Cambridge Lane. Two are still under construction but should be complete within 30 days.
Staff Sgt. Austin Marshall, 84th Radar Evaluation Squadron, his spouse, and three children moved in on Oct. 6.
The Marshalls say they will enjoy living on base with the family atmosphere, feeling of safety, nearby schools, and other benefits and amenities.
“I really don’t like commuting that far,” said Marshall. “When we were looking at living here, I knew I didn’t want to deal with traffic so the thought of being back on base—the convenience, the security—appealed to me.”
“I loved it!” added Marshall’s spouse, Heather, when asked her first impression of the new house. “We love the flooring and we love the backyard. With kids and a dog, you have to have a big backyard!”
During the ribbon cutting ceremony, Col. David Dunklee, 75th Air Base Wing vice commander, provided opening remarks and praised the base’s newest military housing units.
“I have been in a lot of different base houses and I would have to tell you, the Air Force does it right,” said Dunklee, who grew up on military bases. “The Air Force knows how to take care of its Airmen and especially its families.”
The new units, like all others on Hill AFB, will be managed by Boyer Hill Military Housing and are part of a continuing housing construction strategy.
“These new units were built as part of a long-term sustainment program in military housing privatization,” said Danny Davis, BHMH manager. “Our goal is to continually renew the housing area and keep it a place where Airmen will choose to live.”
Choosing base housing at Hill AFB should be something military families want to do as these new units have two-car garages, HVAC systems, and sprinkler systems, similar to the newest units built here from 2005 to 2012.
“These new units have floor plans that have proven to be popular among our existing housing stock,” said Davis. “We have built four-bedroom units that are among the best in our portfolio.”
Rulon Gardener, who owns BHMH, expressed his appreciation for those who serve.
“We’re delivering homes for military families,” he said. “We appreciate your service. We really do look at this as nothing more than providing for our military families who are protecting us and all our freedoms.”
BHMH plans to build additional units in 5-7 years. During this process, plans are for older units to come down to make room for newer units, but remodeling is also planned. According to Davis, remodeling units in future years will allow for more efficiency in providing the quality housing Airmen want.
During construction, BHMH realizes that some current residents were inconvenienced.
“We want to thank all BHMH residents for their patience while we performed this construction in the two neighborhoods,” said Davis.
