Kids Deployment Day has become an annual event here at Hill Air Force Base during The Month of the Military Child. Not only do personnel want to honor the sacrifices and contributions our military children make, but also to provide a positive image while educating the children and the school support network. Kid's Deployment Day is designed to assist the children of military members become more familiar and in turn more comfortable with what goes on when their parents are deployed. Many times military members are called upon to serve our country in a far away place and as parents they will use whatever tools they can find to help their children cope.
Kid's Deployment Day is just one of those tools. It provides an upbeat, positive environment for children to take a glimpse into their military parents' world. In other words, children will get to take a walk in their parents' combat boots as they participate in this special deployment day.
More than 700 children are expected to participate in activities that include going through a deployment line where they will receive a deployment checklist, dog tags, visit the chapel, legal, finance, Airman and Family Readiness Center, finance and get weighed in. Children will have the opportunity to view some of the critters, reptiles and insects that exist in the Middle East. Children will also get to try on gas masks and view and learn about various weapons that may be needed at the deployed location. The children will get to see demonstrations from Security Forces K-9, Explosive Ordinance Disposal and 729th Air Control Squadron. There will be various military vehicles and fire trucks on display as well. The goal of Kid's Deployment Day is to provide a positive learning environment that will help the children understand what to expect when their parents are called up to deploy in the future.
