Ogden Air Logistics Complex shows off its vehicles

HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah—On Aug. 10, the Ogden Air Logistics Complex held its summer picnic along with an outstanding display of cars, motorcycles and even a classic camping trailer during their annual car show.

In addition, the Complex celebrated its AS9100/9110 recertification, a widely used and standardized quality management system for the aerospace industry, and held a final commanders call and award ceremony with outgoing commander, Brig. Gen Steven J. Bleymaier, who will depart the Ogden ALC following a change of command ceremony Aug. 31

The picnic and car show have been held since 2007.

“By far, this has been our largest event to date,” said Julie Lehr, Ogden ALC protocol and event coordinator. “We had 145 vehicles registered and well over 2,000 people in attendance; we even served 1,550 barbeque meals in just over an hour and a half. It was an outstanding success and we are already planning for next year.”

Employees with vehicles of all shapes and sizes took over the base’s Centennial Park to participate in the car show. Some of the vehicles were as old as 1923 and new as 2017.

Stanley Bowen, 573rd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron F-16 mechanic, who’s been collecting cars for over 35 years and now has 40 hotrods, brought a 1928 Ford Model “A” Roadster that has a 1964 Chevrolet Corvette 327cid, 375hp engine.

“I wanted to bring something old and something different to the show and this seemed to fit both needs,” Bowen said.

At the conclusion of the event, 20 different car, truck and motorcycle category awards were presented, including the Generals Choice award given to Jake Dominguez, 709th Maintenance Support Squadron electronics mechanic, for his custom pearl white and tangerine, 1955 Chevrolet pickup.
