Utah ASMC names new leaders

HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah — The Utah chapter of the American Society of Military Comptrollers installed officers for the coming year during their annual picnic here.

The following were named to Utah ASMC officer positions: First Year President Ariel Bambrough; Secretary Cassandra Nickerson-Roland; G. Brad Thompson continues as treasurer.

Bambrough will shadow the acting president, Lisa Ortega; both will be advised by Past President Bret Poll from the Accounting Liaison Office. Outgoing Secretary Winnie Ochoa will now co-chair the hospitality committee for the national meeting for financial management personnel across the Department of Defense.

During remarks, Poll recapped his chapter’s accomplishments. Included in his bucket list were doubling national Professional Development Institute attendance, which he surpassed with 35 known attendees, up from 12; growing chapter membership by 20 percent, which he nearly achieved with 17 percent growth; and receiving recognition from the national office of the ASMC as the fastest growing chapter of their size. The Utah chapter also retained 5-Star status and became nationally recognized, receiving the Meritorious Award.

Outgoing president, Richard Haycock, one of four 2016 winners of the ASMC Chapter Leadership Award, will continue his involvement with ASMC as co-chair of the national PDI to be held the week of Memorial Day in Denver.

The ASMC promotes education, training, and professional development in all aspects of military comptrollership and DOD financial management. Established as the Society of Military Accountants and Statisticians in 1948, the ASMC is now available to all DOD and Coast Guard financial management personnel including uniformed, civilian, and contractors. Since moving to Alexandria, Virginia, in 1991, the ASMC has provided re resources to broaden networks, improve knowledge, and polish professionalism in support of DOD operations.
