Food and life lessons shared at Spiritual Maintenance Breakfast

HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah — The 75th Air Base Wing Chapel staff hosted its annual spiritual maintenance breakfast here May 25.

Team Hill members filled the chapel’s Fellowship Hall to share a meal and to hear words of encouragement from this year’s guest speaker 75th Air Base Wing’s Deputy Wing Chaplain (Maj.) Steven Cunieo.

“We all have a story and in listening to people’s stories I will eventually get around to asking this question: From your life experiences what are some of the most important lessons you’ve learned so far in your journey of life?” Cunieo asked.

“So what I would like to do this morning is reverse what I would normally do and have you ask me that question,” Cunieo said, “and as a matter of fact I do have some life lessons to share. And my hope is that in doing so, you will somehow, some way, be encouraged by something I say.”

Chaplain Cunieo shared five life lessons with attendees:

1. We all bring something to the table and we all matter

2. Good and bad travel along parallel tracks and they often arrive at the same time.

3. Don’t be too hard on yourself because we’re all a work in progress.

4. Keep it simple.

5. Always look for opportunities to lift someone up.

Attendees of the free event were also gifted an inspirational book selected by Cunieo.

Col. David Dunklee, 75th Air Base Wing vice commander, provided closing remarks and summed up the event by comparing it to charging a cellphone.

“These five lessons are pretty near and dear to my heart. And with this breakfast today, I am fully charged 100 percent, probably 110 percent,” Dunklee said.
