AFOSI 8th annual ruck march honors fallen special agent

HILL AIR FORCE BASE — Hill’s Air Force Office of Special Investigations cordially invites Team Hill to participate in the Air Force Office of Special Investigations’ 8th annual Ruck March June 5 in memoriam of fallen AFOSI agent, Special Agent Ryan Balmer.

Balmer was killed in action on June 5, 2007, while assigned to Hill Air Force Base and deployed to Kirkuk, Iraq, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The ruck march will be begin at the Hill AFB track and finish at the Airmen’s Memorial adjacent to Building 150. The ruck march will begin with brief opening remarks.

The length of the march is 13 miles, with many participants carrying a 35-40 pound ruck sack, preferably full of canned goods to be donated at the end of the march.

The majority of the march will take place on the Hill AFB Perimeter Road (blacktop asphalt), so participants are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes.  Event organizers suggest sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat for protection from the sun.  Water will be provided for participants, and there will be a first aid capability and transportation available during the march to pick up participants who are unable to complete the entire march.

The march can take 5-6 hours. AFOSI will also provide lunch at the conclusion.

Register for the event by May 20 with the number of persons in your organization or group who will participate in this event.  The head count will help organizers ensure there is enough water and food available.
