South Gate Lane closure through June

Construction at South Gate Drive and Balmer Road to add an additional lane of traffic to the outbound side of the South Gate will begin March 23 and is anticipated to conclude June 15. The construction will result in intermittent closures to one lane of traffic at the South Gate and South Gate Drive between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. In order to accommodate peak traffic during the lunch period, the Southwest Gate will be open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Southwest Gate will remain closed on federal holidays and AFMC Family days.

Hero2Hired Job Fair set for March 24

The Hero2Hired Job Fair is scheduled for March 24 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the South Towne Expo Center, 9575 S. State Street, Sandy. The fair is for veterans, active-duty military members, Guard and Reserve service members and military spouses. This event is free for both employers and job seekers. Free parking is available.

Motorcycle Rodeo addresses safety

A Team Hill Motorcycle Rodeo will be held April 16 at Hill Air Force Base. 

The event, which is hosted by the Green Knights motorcycle club, will include a preseason motorcycle safety briefing at 8 a .m. and 3 p.m. at the base theater. Discussions will include changes to Air Force Instructions and Utah motorcycle laws, a motorcycle safety equipment demonstration, and presentations by Hill’s riding associations. 

Following the briefings, riders are encouraged to visit the main Base Exchange parking lot to visit with area motorcycle vendors, and see an “impaired” riding race and slow ride contest. Food will be available for purchase.

Hill AFB legal office closed this week

The Hill AFB legal office will be closed March 18-20 for an official function. For emergencies, contact the Command Post, which can connect you with the on-call judge advocate.

Aerospace museum hosts Plane Talks

The Hill Aerospace Museum hosts a plane talk series featuring speakers related to the heritage of Hill AFB, the Air Force, other military branches, and many other subjects related to aerospace and the defense industry. 

Plane Talk is at 1 p.m. Saturdays in the museum auditorium. On March 21 the speaker is Lynn P. Beens, B-52 Navigator and POW; the March 28 speaker is Don Brown, of the U.S. Army.

OSC spring bazaar set for April 29

The annual Hill Officers’ Spouses’ Club Spring Bazaar will be held  from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 29 at The Landing. 

More than 50 vendors offer gifts for every occasion, including Mother’s Day, as well as jewelry, baby items, decorations and much more. 

Admission is free and open to people with access to the base.

Retirement planning sessions coming up

A series of employee financial workshops are available for Team Hill to learn about financial preparation. 

The series will focus on the Thrift Savings Plan, annuities, and retirement and estate planning issues. 

Upcoming courses include: April 7 – Special Retirement Planning (for people retiring within a year); April 14 – Retirement Planning; and May 5 – Estate Planning.

649th MUNS limits support in April

The 649th Munitions Squadron will be conducting a 100 percent inventory of its depot stockpile April 1-30. 

During the inventory, the only transactions that will be supported are emergency requests approved in writing by a group commander or equivalent. For more information, call Staff Sgt. Base Tax Center open through April 15

The base tax center is open through April 15. The hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

The center is located in the Poe Conference Center located in Building 1295.

This is a free, walk-in service for active-duty, Reserve/Guard on Title 10 orders, dependents, and retirees.  If you have questions, call 801-777-1040.

AF officials seek award nominees

Air Force officials are accepting nominations for the 2015 Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs Grateful Nation Award. The award is presented annually to six service members who distinguish themselves through superior conduct in the war on terrorism.

Air Force enlisted nominees must be senior master sergeants or below, and officer nominees must be captains or below. Organizations and base-level personnel must contact their major command, field operating agency or direct reporting unit for applicable suspense dates and nomination procedures. Each MAJCOM, COCOM, FOA and DRU may nominate one person. 

Nomination packages are due to the Air Force Personnel Center by May 28.
