Sports physicals offered on two Saturdays

The 75th Medical Group will offer sports physicals 8 a.m.-noon, on two Saturdays – Aug. 23 and Sept. 13.

Appointments for the physicals can be made by calling 801-728-2600. Walk-in appointments will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, but those with appointments will take priority based on their appointment time.

Patients must bring completed TSWF worksheet as well as sports physical paperwork to the appointment. These appointments are for sports physicals only and children and parents will not be seen for any medical conditions or concerns other than physicals.

Free week of transit offered to Hill employees

The Utah Transit Authority will offer a free week of transit to Hill Air Force Base employees Sept. 8-12.

The offer is valid only on FrontRunner and bus routes 664 and 665 to and from the Clearfield FrontRunner Station and Hill AFB. To ride free, employees will need to show their government-issued ID.

Class offered on Adult immunizations

The Civilian Health and Promotions Service (CHPS) is offering an immunization class for adults to learn what vaccines they may need and why it is important to receive the flu shot each year. 

A recent national survey showed that most adults are not aware that they need vaccines throughout their lives to protect against diseases like shingles, pertussis, and hepatitis.

Save the Date, Air Force ball Sept. 20

Planning is under way for the annual Team Hill Air Force Ball that will celebrate the Air Force’s 67th birthday.

Sponsored by the Hill Air Force Base Company Grade Officer Council, this year’s ball will be Sept. 20 at the Ogden Eccles Conference Center, 2415 Washington Blvd., in Ogden.

Ticket sales will be announced in the coming weeks. The Department of the Air Force was established on Sept. 18, 1947.

Museum seeking volunteers for annual food drive

The Hill Aerospace Museum’s Food for Life Committee is seeking approximately 100 volunteers to assist in coordinating and hosting this year’s Food for Life Day at the museum.

The event will be held 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Sept. 20. Volunteers will assist with everything from set-up to tear-down, coordinating the car show activities, crowd control, food donation collection, and entertainment, among other things.

The Food for Life Day is an annual food drive/open-aircraft event where the general public is invited to get a rare glimpse inside some of the museum’s most vintage aircraft. The day will also feature the Wings and Wheels car show, an Air Force Association Chili Cook-Off, a DJ, food vendors, and the Ogden Concert Band.

Weapons evaluation exercise continues

Residents around Hill may notice an increase in aircraft arrivals and departures through Aug. 22 as the 86th Fighter Weapons Squadron conducts the U.S. Air Force air-to-ground exercise known as Combat Hammer and air-to-air exercise known as Combat Archer.

Four units have deployed to Hill and three units will travel directly to the Utah Test and Training Range to drop munitions in realistic combat scenarios. With support from the 388th Fighter Wing and 75th Air Base Wing, 86th Fighter Weapons Squadron Airmen will collect and analyze data on how these precision weapons perform and their suitability for use in combat.

Units participating in the Air Force Weapons System Evaluation Program for air-to-surface and air-to-air munitions, known as Combat Hammer and Combat Archer, include: F-16s from Hill AFB and Aviano Air Base, Italy; F-15Es from Royal Air Forces Lakenheath, U.K.; AC-130s from Cannon AFB, N.M.; and F-15Es from Mountain Home MQ-9s from Creech AFB, Nev., will participate from other locations.

Commander’s Cup Golf Tournament

The 2014 Commander’s Cup Golf Tournament will be held Sept. 2 at Hill AFB’s Hubbard Golf Course. All proceeds benefit the Hill Aerospace Museum.

Cost is $150 per golfer, which includes green’s fees, cart, food and prizes. Tournament format is a Las Vegas Modified Scramble. Four-person teams will be assigned a golf pro or scratch amateur to make a five-person team. Check in begins at 10:30 a.m. with a golf clinic held at 11:15 a.m. The tournament begins at noon followed by an awards dinner in the club house.

Bowling fundraiser

The Hispanic American Heritage Observance Committee plans a bowling event Aug. 28 starting at 11 a.m.

Cost of the event is $12 per person ($60 per five-person team) and includes three games of bowling and shoe rental. Bowlers should be in place to bowl by 10:45 a.m.

The event is to raise funds to provide scholarships and to support Hill’s National Hispanic Observance Month annual celebration.

Chief’s Group golf tournament Aug. 22

The 17th Annual Hill Chief’s Group Golf Tournament will be held Aug. 22 at the Hubbard Golf Course. Registration time starts at 6:30 a.m. and the shotgun start will be at 7:30 a.m.

Entry fee is $60 per person. The Hubbard Golf Course punch card will be accepted (two punches, plus $40). Entry fee includes greens fee and golf cart.

Proceeds from the tourney will support various Team Hill activities including Operation Warm Heart, Airman Leadership School and the Officer, Enlisted and Civilian Quarterly and Annual Awards program.

CFC 5K Fun

Run/Walk

A 5K fun run/walk, sponsored by Hill’s Combined Federal Campaign committee, will be held Aug. 20 at the Warrior Fitness Center Track.

Participation in the event is free, but for a $20 donation to support the upcoming CFC campaign, participants will receive a pull-string bag/water bottle or a prior year CFC T-shirt. Prizes will be given for the top three men’s and women’s fastest times.

A traffic/child safety fair is planned Aug. 21 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., in the parking lot east of the baseball fields next to the Warrior Fitness Center.

Vendors, including the Safe Kids Coalition and the Student Neighborhood Access Program, will be available to answer questions and provide information. Parents will also have the opportunity to have their car seats inspected for proper installation through a vehicle drive-up section of the venue.

According to the Safe Kids Coalition, a large majority of car seats are improperly installed.

Committee seeking volunteers

The Equal Opportunity Office is looking for volunteers to assist with the Dr. Martin Luther King Holiday and African American/Black History Month Observances.

Observance committees are open to all base personnel, their family members, retirees and civilians. Volunteers do not have to be associated with a particular group to participate. Those who would like to participate do not have to attend every committee meeting, but it is highly recommended.

Building access restricted

The 75th Civil Engineering Group will be restricting access to Bldgs. 400 and 430 in two phases to replace asphalt near the buildings.

Phase 1 will happen Aug. 3-10. During this phase, the north entrance off 6th Street will be closed and the west entrance off F Street will need to be used. The western part of the Bldg. 430 parking lot will also be impacted and restrict access to Bldg. 430. Those wanting into Bldg. 430 will need to walk east around the southwest part of the construction area.

Phase 2 will occur Aug. 11-17. During this phase, the Southeast entrance on Community Street will be closed and access off Community Street will be the northeast entrance and northwest entrance off 6th Street. Access to Bldg. 430 will be impacted again and those needing access to the building will need to walk to the southwest end of the parking lot to get to Bldg. 430.

Coffee Talk will be held at the Airmen Recreation Center (Bldg. 524) 6:30-7:30 a.m., on the second Wednesday of the each month. The event is held for junior enlisted Airmen to voice questions and concerns with installation leaders. The next Coffee Talk will be Sept. 10.

HAFB to host appreciation day

Hill Air Force Base will host its Annual Military Retiree Appreciation Day event Friday, September 26, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Landing on HAFB. Event officials are expecting more than 400 military beneficiaries to attend. Military Retiree Appreciation Day events include: presentations, exhibits, demonstrations, displays, drawings, and refreshments.

Keynote speaker for the event is Mr. Richard Smith, Executive Director of Basketball Operations for the Utah Jazz. Other presentations will include speakers from: The 75th MSG, 75th FSS, 75th MDG, Social Security Administration, VA, Tricare, AAFES, Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS), Commissary, and the area council member of the Air Force Retiree Council.

Feel free to attend the presentations or just visit the informational booths. In addition to the organizations mentioned above, over 30 other Federal, State, and non-profit organizations will provide resource material. Come with your questions regarding the Hill AFB Clinic and Pharmacy, AAFES, Commissary, Veterans Affairs, DFAS, Tricare and Tricare Retiree Dental. Many military associations will be present to provide information about their organizations. There will be ongoing demonstrations by Security Forces Working Dogs along with a weapon and EOD Static Display.

Annual triathlon planned

Let your inner athlete run, ride, and swim in the Hill Air Force Base Triathlon on Aug. 23, from 8-9 a.m. Participants will run a 5k, bike a 20k, and finish with a 400m swim.

This event costs $10 for the race only and $20 for a t-shirt and the race. Participants must sign up by Aug. 18 if interested.

The Landing gets new hours

The Landing (Bldg. 450) has new hours.

The new hours are from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Fridays and 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturdays. 

A pasta buffet will be offered every Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for $7. Club members save an additional $1.

Canines With 

A Cause

FARMINGTON — The Canines With A Cause program will hold its 2014 golf tournament at 8:30 a.m. on August 25 at Oakridge Country Club, 1492 W. Sheppard Lane, Farmington.

The program connects veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder and well-trained, specialized service dogs that provide emotional therapy.

Program officials said by rescuing dogs from kill shelters, and using prison inmates as a means to train, the program essentially saves three lives: the veteran, the dog and the inmate.

The tournament begins with a four-person team scramble, shotgun start. 

It offers prizes for first, second and third place for team, gross and net individual hole prizes and other on-course contests.

The tournament also offers a hole-in-one prize opportunity and chance drawing, as well as a silent and live auction.

Blood Drive

A base-wide blood drive will be held from 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Aug. 22 in Bldg. 568 (Medical Training).

Those wishing to donate can make an appointment by going to the following link: http://vols.pt/KE7Bx3. Volunteers can choose from 15 minute time-blocks throughout the day. Donors should plan 60 minutes for the entire process.

Base-wide blood drives are held each month and are sponsored by either the American Red Cross or MountainStar. The drives for the rest of the year will occur on the following Fridays: Sept. 19, Oct. 17, Nov. 14 and Dec. 12. 

Training days designated

The 75th Air Base Wing has designated the second Wednesday of each month as a “Training Day.” 

The training days schedule is Aug. 13, Sept. 10, Oct. 8, Nov. 12 and Dec. 10. During these training days, the 75th Medical Group, including the base pharmacy, will be closed.

The only Medical Group exception is the Occupational Medicine Services (civilian) Clinic, Bldg. 249.

No changes will be made to the appointment process. 

Other ABW Organizations will be open, but with minimal staff. 

Customers are recommended to conduct business on other days of each month.

Fundraising regulations

Hill AFB organizations may conduct two fundraising events each quarter, but the events must be approved via staff summary sheet, in accordance with AFI 34-223-AFI 36-3101.

The 75 FSS/CL is the approving authority for all booster clubs or private organizations. 

Requests should be routed at least 10-15 days prior to the event.

HAFB movie

theater reopens

The Base Theater shows newly released movies for free. 

Three movies are shown every Saturday at noon, 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. 

There is a snack bar that helps support initiatives of the base’s First Four organization.

Immunization requirements

The Department of Defense recently updated its immunization guidelines, requiring all service members to receive the hepatitis B virus immunizations.

Members have 365 days to complete the three-shot series before they are flagged for non-compliance.

The hepatitis B vaccine is given in three doses.

• Dose 1 is given.

• Dose 2 must be given at least 30 days after dose 1.

• Dose 3 must be given at least 60 days after dose 2, and at least 120 days after dose 1.

Commanders should ensure their Unit Health Monitors notify members of this requirement. Immediate action is recommended because it takes at least four months to complete the series. Service members can check their IMR status online by visiting the Air Force Surgeon Generals website at https://imr.afms.mil/imr/MyIMR.aspx.

Walk-in service ends at Tricare

The 75th Medical Group TRICARE Service Center closed April 1.

Walk-in service is no longer be provided CONUS impacting 200 TRICARE Service Centers stateside. 

This change is an effort by the Department of Defense to manage costs and is estimated to save $254 million over the next five years. 

Military members, their family members and all other TRICARE eligible beneficiaries are encouraged to utilize United Healthcare Military and Veterans toll free number at 877-988-9378 or their website at www.uhcmilitarywest.com for all TRICARE related issues and questions.

Beneficiaries can perform all administrative tasks online or by phone. 

Hill’s Tricare office was run in concert with the base’s 75th Medical Group. The office was at 7321 Balmer St. Bldg. 570.

Fitness center hours

Hours at the Warrior and Hess Fitness Centers are Monday through Friday from 5:30 a.m.-7 p.m., Saturday through Sunday from 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. and holidays/family days from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

The Warrior Fitness Center offers a weight room, cardiovascular exercise equipment, universal equipment, saunas, racquetball courts, two basketball courts, a climbing wall and indoor running/walking track. 

The Hess fitness center offers an indoor pool, a basketball/volleyball court, racquetball courts, a family fitness area, a martial art room and an indoor tennis court.
